James Hatcher Founder’s Fund Scholarships for Performing Ensemble Members
The James Hatcher Founder’s Fund presents a competitive scholarship program for graduating seniors of Red Mountain Theatre Company's Performing Ensemble. It is a program of financial aid tailored to assist aspiring and culturally diverse artists from the region, with an emphasis on musical theatre, as they continue their education and/or training. The competitive scholarship is a one year award available to individuals enrolled in a degreed or certificate program at an accredited or approved community college, vocational school, four year college, conservatory or other James Hatcher Founder’s Fund approved special studies. There are three scholarship awards: First place ($2,500), Second place ($1,500) and Third place ($1,000).
Criteria Qualifications
Candidates must be enrolled (and certified within 180 days from the scholarship grant date) in a degreed or certificate program at an accredited or approved community college, vocational school, four year college, conservatory or James Hatcher Founder’s Fund approved special studies.
Candidates must be a graduating high school senior and current member of the Performing Ensemble.
Candidates must return the scholarship application post marked no later than February 28, and received by March 7, for the year being considered. The applications will be judged based on the information submitted. Judges will be appointed by the President of Red Mountain Theatre Company in conjunction with the Vice President of the James Hatcher Founder’s Fund and approved by the Executive Committee.
The scholarship selection committee considers the student’s years involved in the Performing Ensemble, leadership role(s), individual participation, special projects, programs or assignments, attendance at rehearsals and other functions, and overall activity with the Performing Ensemble as well as what impact it has had upon the applicant’s future career plans. All candidates are considered without regard to race, creed, color, sex, national origin or sexual preference. The decisions of the scholarship committee are final and not subject to review.
Red Mountain Theatre Company may use excerpts from scholarships applications for development purposes. Award winners will be announced within the months of March or April of each year. The scholarships are for a period of one year and must be used within the school year which could include the immediate summer session, fall session, the following spring session and the following summer session.
How to Apply
Applicants must complete the official application and mail it to the James Hatcher Founder’s Fund (see address below) by the deadline date.
How Funds are Dispersed
Funds will be sent to the scholarship recipient’s listed institution upon certification by that institution that the recipient has been accepted and is enrolled. Certification must be received at the RMTC Business Office in Birmingham, AL, within 180 days of the scholarship grant. Certifications which are mailed must be post marked within the deadline and mailed to Red Mountain Theatre Company, 2900 First Avenue South, Suite A, Birmingham, Alabama 35233. Those scholarships which are not certified will return to the scholarship fund for future year awards.
