Master Class with Penn State University Theatre Professor Cary Libkin

WHAT: Two Classes: “Life After High School” and “Acting the Song”

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:
Acting the Song is targeted for those aged 14+. Participants will learn to take their songs to the next level and be given the tools to deliver a song that stands out in performance, auditions and beyond. Students should bring their sheet music with them. An accompanist will be provided.

Life After High School is focused on students who are thinking of majoring in acting or musical theatre. This class is tailor made for high school juniors, sophomores and their parents. Cary Libkin answers the tough questions about the next steps in theatre education.

Acting the Song ($50 to participate and $25 to observe), Life After High School ($25/family)

ABOUT CARY LIBKIN:

Cary Libkin had chaired the famed BFA in Musical Theatre at Penn State University since its inception. Alums from this prestigious program have appeared on and off-Broadway, in television, and virtually every national tour currently running boasts Penn State Musical Theatre alums. Additionally, Mr. Libkin has trained such artists as Anthony Rapp, Santino Fontana and Josh Groban. Nationally he has conducted his “Acting the Song” master class at theatre festivals and performing arts high schools all across the country. Internationally, Libkin has conducted master classes at musical theatre training centers in the UK, the University of Lahti in Finland, the Stage School in Hamburg, Germany, and the Danish Academy of Musical Theatre. Besides teaching musical theatre performance and directing, Cary Libkin maintains an active free-lance directing career. Having directed over 150 productions, he has directed at such theatres as Pennsylvania Centre Stage, Kentucky Shakespeare Festival, Music Theatre of Wichita, Connecticut Repertory Theatre and the famed Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Additionally he has served as a guest director at many universities. Cary Libkin serves as president of the Musical Theatre Educators Alliance, an organization made up over 80 musical theatre training programs from across the world. He is also a proud member of SDC, the Society of Directors and Choreographers.
