Youth Programs

The RMTC Youth Programs provide a vehicle for selected talented youth from Birmingham and the surrounding area to fine-tune and showcase their musical talents.

The Youth Programs include the Performing Ensemble, organized in 1993 for youth ages 13-18, Spotlights, formed in 2001 for performers ages 11-15, Previews created in 2004 for performers ages 9-12 and our newest addition in 2010 - the Sprouts (ages 6-9).

Students attending the Youth Musical Theatre Workshop each June are given the opportunity to audition for the Youth Programs. Once chosen, these young professionals rehearse weekly, learning music and choreography from nationally recognized teachers and professionals.

Their season includes the annual Youth Programs Showcase along with collaborations with visiting guest artists like Jason Robert Brown, David Friedman and Billy Porter, benefit and philanthropic performances throughout the community, as well as multiple customized performances for public and private functions throughout the year. The Youth Programs are proud to represent Red Mountain Theatre Company, the city of Birmingham and the state of Alabama.

Past appearances have included: the concert version of Carousel with the Alabama Symphony and the Alabama Ballet, the James Hatcher Founders Fund Benefit starring Rebecca Luker and Douglas Sills in New York City, the 225th Anniversary celebration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Washington, D.C., a four-city tour of Italy as well as recent trips to Chicago, New York City, London, Seattle and Greece.
